Academics Overview
PRE KINDERGARTEN
The Pre-Kindergarten program At FCCS provides a safe and nurturing Christian environment for children to learn and grow. Children are given various opportunities to develop their creative side, interact with peers, build fine and gross motor skills, foster their self-esteem and work on readiness skills for kindergarten. The curriculum is carefully planned, taking into consideration that each child has unique needs, interests, and capabilities. The daily schedule includes free play time, circle time, project time and outdoor play. At circle time, children go over the calendar, weather, sing songs, read bible stories, and share any special news.
The Pre-Kindergarten program takes a hands-on approach to learning. There will be many fun activities. Some of the activities include arts and crafts, science activities, exploration activities, cooking, gym activities, creative movement, and more! Parents are invited to visit and help in the Pre-Kindergarten class at anytime.
KINDERGARTEN
Full-Day Kindergarten is provided at FCCS. A full day of kindergarten allows our students the gift of time: time for hands-on-learning, time for guided practice, time for exploration, time for self-development, and time for social interaction. The Kindergarten program promotes academic & spiritual growth, creativity, and the inquiring mind while helping to develop the love of learning within all students that is the foundation for lifelong learning. Each child will be able to grow, learn, and be challenged socially and academically. Students begin to acquire the knowledge and skills essential to learning through hands on activities, instructional time and class projects. Students of different abilities, talents, interests, and backgrounds work and play together in an environment that is both nurturing and challenging.
In a typical day, FCCS kindergarten students engaged in a morning class meeting where calendar activities are done, a bible message is read and discussed, and where there is opportunity to play with words and sounds through singing. There will be an ample time allotted to reading and writing, including opportunities for individualized and group instruction, independent work, and centers. While having a snack, students might listen to a bible story, then begin working on a math lesson. Following lunch, students might have a quiet rest time in class, then resume working in a group math project. End of the day activities might include a meeting to review the activities of the day, interactive reading and writing, word play, and sharing. On Wednesdays, students attend weekly chapel and learn bible stories and life lessons. Having the full day allows students more time to explore the kindergarten curriculum.
Elementary
FCCS has a long tradition of academic excellence and high expectations for student achievement. In the Elementary Grades children will succeed with the wonderful Christian based curriculum and our experienced teachers who will teach them to learn and grow. Our Christ-centered emphasis on learning allows children to be successful in all aspects of their lives. Other educational sources are also incorporated to allow us to achieve as successful and well-rounded learning experience as possible. We offer enrichment classes such as choir, art, P.E., computers and Spanish. We also offer service opportunities, field trips, special musicals, and multi-school competitions in creative writing, speech/spelling meets, and an annual track/field event. Strong parent and community involvement begins early with parents of the youngest learners in our elementary program and continues well after their children have finished sixth grade.
JUNIOR HIGH
The Junior High School program at Foothills Community Christian School consists of seventh and eight grade students. Transition is probably the best word to describe the junior high stage in education. Students at this age begin a transition from being children to young adults; with a greater emphesis on critical thinking and reasoning skills.
As a Christian school, we approach our subjects from a Christian worldview and encourage the development of character as well as academic achievement. Our curriculum includes the core subjects (Math, History, Science, English and Bible), but also includes Art, Physical Education, and choir
HIGH SCHOOL
The high school program at FCCS provides multiple opportunities for students to discover their individual God-given talents and gifts from a biblical, Christ-centered worldview. Each school year begins with a Fall Retreat, which gives the students an opportunity to get to know each other. In addition to core subjects (Math, Science, English, History, Bible) students may take classes such as Art, on-line elective classes and choir. Extra-curricular activities include worship team, basketball, soccer, volleyball and student council. On Wednesday mornings, students gather together in chapel to worship the Lord in song, and hear guest speakers (local pastors, missionaries, or teachers).
